Home Controls & Keybindings

Controls & Keybindings

Printable map of every key the play clients use: what it does, and when it is live. Print this page from the browser (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P). The first section is the one-page cheatsheet; the rest is the full reference.

In game, ? or / opens a shorter list. This page is the complete one.

Defaults below match a fresh client. Combat binds (target, dodge, block, lunge, hotbar, loadout, rotation) can be overridden in the content files. Everything else is fixed.

The graphical client (flatland3-gfx) is the reference. The terminal client (flatland3) shares the world and menu keys; differences are called out at the end.

How keys are chosen

Only one layer owns the keyboard:

  1. Quit — Ctrl+Q and Ctrl+C always quit, even inside a menu.
  2. Floating panels — Ctrl+Shift+1–5 always toggle the graphical HUD floats.
  3. The open menu, chat composer, claim, relocate, map-target, or route editor — that screen eats the key. World binds (move, dodge, hotbar) do not fire.
  4. Where you are standing — a few world letters change on a farm plot or at a house door (plant, till, lock, enter).
  5. The world — movement, combat, and menu openers.

Lists share one grammar unless a table says otherwise: ↑ ↓ or j k move the selection, PgUp PgDn page, Enter confirms, Esc closes or steps back. Quantity pickers share - / + (or =), a for the maximum that fits, and 0 for the minimum.

j and k climb and descend only in the world. Inside a menu they move the list.

Input When What it does
Left click Empty ground Auto-walk to that cell (A* path).
Left click Hostile under the cursor Set T1 to that creature.
Shift+left click Map Place a free-aim ground point (AoE), even over a creature.
Right click Map Cancel auto-walk and clear the ground aim.

Left click Route editor, placing a stop Drop a waypoint.

Movement

Key When What it does
W A S D or arrows World Cardinal move. Two held keys make a diagonal. Opposing keys cancel.
Shift (hold) While moving Sprint until you release it. Drains stamina.
x World Toggle sprint mode. Stays on after you release Shift, until you press x again or stamina winds you.

m World Map-target mode. WASD moves an X on the map.

Empty stamina winds you: walk, jump, lunge, and auto-pursue stop until stamina recovers to about a quarter. Block and attacks still work once you can pay their cost.

Combat

T1 auto-pursues into weapon range when you are idle. Dodge hops about 6 m along the direction you are holding and covers a telegraph if you press it during the wind-up; pressing it again spends stamina. Block has a light stamina cost and a short commit window, and it yields to dodge.
